How to Make Your Candle Burn Better (and Last Longer)

You found a scent you love. Now let’s make sure you get every last bit of goodness out of it.

A few simple habits can make a big difference in how evenly your candle burns, how well it throws fragrance and how long it lasts.

Trim that wick.

Before each burn, trim your wick to about ¼ inch. A wick that’s too long can create a larger flame, soot and an uneven burn.

Give it time on the first burn.

Let the melted wax reach close to the edges of the container before blowing it out. This helps prevent tunneling—that annoying hole down the middle that leaves perfectly good wax stuck around the sides.

But don't burn it all day.

We know. You want your house to smell amazing forever. But candles need a break too. Aim for about 3–4 hours at a time.
